Embeddings as Useful Coordinates

Vectors place related items near one another for search and comparison.

An embedding converts an item into a list of numbers whose geometry captures learned relationships. Similar passages often occupy nearby regions, allowing semantic search beyond exact keywords. An embedding is not a complete explanation of meaning; its quality depends on training data, model purpose, and the distance measure used.
