Machine Learning and Deep Learning

A relationship of scope rather than two competing ideas.

Machine learning covers methods that learn patterns from data. Deep learning is a subset built around neural networks with many representation layers. Simpler methods can be easier to explain and cheaper to operate, while deep networks excel when large datasets and complex signals justify their additional computation.
